چکیده

The study of salinity stress in irrigated floriculture can make a significant contribution to the preservation freshwater sources. To analyze morphological and aesthetic responses zinnia (Zinnia elegans L.) periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don) different levels, following treatments were performed: s0 = municipal water (control), s1 3 dS m−1, s2 4.5 s3 6 m−1. growth (flower number, plant height, branch leaf total fresh dry biomass, root length) was linearly reduced by increasing while all observed traits for treatment either equal or greater than control (n.s.) further increase showed (p < 0.01) decrease. first flower buds on appeared with (s0), bud treatment. With regard both necrosis, drying firing occurred during third week treatments. Zinnia proved be sensitive salinity, mild tolerance stress, up

Mutation breeding in Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don: An Overview

Induced mutagenesis is best approach for creation of genetic variability but most of interest is paid towards crop plants with only a few exceptions. But even widely used medicinal plants could receive a little attention in this direction. Catharanthus roseus is an important plant medicinal plant yielding antihypertensive alkaloid ajmalcine and anticancerous alkaloid vincristine and vinblastine...

Abiotic and biotic elicitors’ effects on secondary metabolites biosynthesis of periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus (Linn.) G. Don)

Based on recent statistical survey, the cancer is the third important factor in Iran mortality. Vinblastine and vincristine alkaloids are dominantly biosynthesized in the aerial parts of periwinkle, broadly applied for cancer treatment. Therefore, over production of these alkaloids by using the biotechnological approaches is inevitable. Since the terpenoid indole alkaloids (TIAS) biosynthesis p...

Antidiabetic and antioxidant properties of alkaloids from Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don.

Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don is a herbal plant traditionally used by local populations in India, South Africa, China and Malaysia to treat diabetes. The present study reports the in vitro antioxidant and antidiabetic activities of the major alkaloids isolated from Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don leaves extract. Four alkaloids--vindoline I, vindolidine II, vindolicine III and vindolinine IV--...

Cytogenetic characterization and genome size of the medicinal plant Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Catharanthus roseus is a highly valuable medicinal plant producing several terpenoid indole alkaloids (TIAs) with pharmaceutical applications, including the anticancer agents vinblastine and vincristine. Due to the interest in its TIAs, C. roseus is one of the most extensively studied medicinal plants and has become a model species for the study of plant secondary metabolism...

Antifungal properties of leaf extract of Catharanthus roseus l (g.) Don

Catharanthus roseus is well known for its pharmacological significance. The present study aims to determine the antifungal activity of Catharanthus roseus against various clinically significant fungal strains (Candida albicans, Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium moniliforme). Assessment of antifungal activity of Catharanthus roseus was done by paper disc diffusion method. In thi...
